Numbers In Play
The Sports Insight Index is our opinion of what we think are the 30 most important public companies in the industry, 15 vendors and 15 retailers. Space considerations prevent us from tracking more, but we will make changes over time.
Retail
Segment essentially flat against Dow’s nearly 1 percent improvement for the period. Four stocks fell and 11 rose for the week, led by Camping World where the wife of CEO Marcus Lemonis bought 1.3 million shares on March 15. Sports Direct CEO is moving toward being appointed to the board of U.K. department store Debenhams. DSW, whose shares fell the most in nearly five years on March 15 after reporting a Q4 loss, is changing its corporate name to Designer Brands on April 2 with a new “DBI” ticker. Inventories per sq. ft. were up 5.9 percent at end of FY. Foot Locker will play a significant role in the celebration of Nike Air Max Day tomorrow. Sportsman’s Warehouse is adding gunsmithing services to all 92 locations. Hibbett realized 60 percent ecommerce growth in Q4 to represent 10.6 percent of period revenues, or about $32.4 million.

GoPro learns that its rival in China, Insta360, is considering an IPO in that country next year. Amer Sports' acquisition by an investment consortium should be completed by month’s end, making the Finnish firm a privately-owned firm subsequently. It will be replaced on this Index next week. Skechers was the title sponsor of the Los Angeles Marathon yesterday for a fourth consecutive year. Lululemon, scheduled to report year-end results this week and likely to face increased competition from Nike and others this year, recently signed the NFL’s Nick Foles, now a quarterback for Jacksonville, as its first mainstream sports endorser.
