Fila Enters Pickleball; Racquet Sports Innovation Challenge Deadline Approaches

Fila is looking for a piece of the fast-growing pickleball category, introducing the Italian label’s first performance footwear and apparel collection tied to the sport. The brand is the Official Athletic Apparel and Footwear of the 2019 Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships taking place at the Indian Wells, CA Tennis Garden through Nov. 10. Fila’s first two pickleball-specific styles, the Volley Zone (MSRP: $100) and Double Bounce (MSRP: $65) in colors for men and women are available at the event. The Double Bounce makes its way to U.S. retailers later this month. The Volley Zone, which incorporates many features of Fila’s popular Axilus 2 Energized performance tennis shoe, will be available for purchase at specialty retailers and in January.

“We see an incredible opportunity in the pickleball marketplace to deliver apparel and footwear that is specifically designed to the needs of this sport,” commented Mickey Rivera, director of sales for tennis and pickleball at Fila. “We know that pickleball players are amazing passionate, and we wanted to create a line of products and a FILA Pickleball identity that reflect the uniqueness of the sport.”

In Spring 2020, Fila will introduce its first pickleball apparel line consisting of a Racerbank Tank and V-Neck T-shirt for women in a variety of colors, and the Scallop Hem HT Crew and Pickleball Polo for men. Also, a Pickleball bag with the FILA Pickleball logo will be available early next year.
